| Description |
中文（臺灣）：康熙五十四年（1715），諸羅知縣周鍾瑄創建城隍廟，近三百年間廟宇和這塊土地人民的生活，一直有著緊密不可分的關係。歷經滄海桑田，諸羅縣許多重要的古建築逐漸拆除不存；原來刺竹土圍的縣城，在日治的市區改正和光復後的都市計畫影響下，轉換為現代化的都市；然而城隍廟則是少數留存創建原址的重要建築。
近三百年，廟宇經過多次興修改建，現況古蹟本體，基本上是日治昭和十一至十五年（1936〜1940）間修建的結果。並於民國七十四年（1985），由政府指定為第三級古蹟。隨即於民國八十五至八十七年（1996〜1998）間，依據文化資產保存法進行修復，並保存至今。
