Summary[edit]

Description Lot 11618-6: Athens, Greece, 1941-42. German inscription on a garden wall in the center of Athens photographed by a patriot on the first Greek Independence day under the Axis occupation. The inscription expresses a threat to the Nazis: “We shall force them to their knees.” The writer has capitalized the “s” in “sie” by mistake, a form only used in a polite address.
