Slovenčina: Začiatky pastierstva siahajú do obdobia okolo roku 6500 pred Kr., kedy boli v oblasti Blízkeho východu zdomácené zvieratá koza domáca a ovca domáca. Okolo roku 6000 pred Kr. sú už známe dôkazy o chove hovädzieho dobytka, ošípaných a hydiny. Na území Slovenska chovali Slovania dobytok formou pasenia na lúkach. Okrem toho chovali ešte ošípané, ovce, kozy a kŕmili ich senom. Za priekopníkov salašníckeho chovu oviec sa považujú prisťahovalci z dnešného Bulharska a Rumunska. Známi sú výrobou mliečnych výrobkov, ako napr. bryndza či rôzne syry. Koncom 17. storočia sa už postupne zavádzal maštaľný chov dobytka so sezónnym pasením na priľahlých lúkach. |
