English: Ywca War Workers' Club- Rest and Relaxation in Yeovil, Somerset, England, UK, 1944 A scene in a Make Do and Mend class at the YWCA war workers' club in Yeovil. Amongst the group are Mrs Norman, who works in a local library and runs the class as a voluntary war job; Joan Keith, a draughtswoman at an aircraft factory; Eileen Hampshere; Margaret Yeoman and Mrs Iris Connor, who makes gloves for RAF pilots. Glove-making is the town's traditional trade. Two of the women are pinning a paper pattern to some fabric, another is ironing, and a third is darning socks by hand. |
