Summary[edit]

Description
English: Retired Navy captain and former astronaut Jim Lovell, left, and Capt. Jake Washington, commanding officer, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Midwest, watch as Capt. Thomas McGue, commanding officer, Naval Health Clinic Great Lakes, and Patrick Sullivan, director, North Chicago VA Medical Center, sign the final roofing beam to be lifted into place as part of a "topping off" ceremony. The event, part of a centuries-old construction tradition, marked a milestone in building the first completely integrated Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs health care center. Located near Naval Station Great Lakes, Ill., the center is scheduled for completion in August 2010 and is named in honor of Lovell. (U.S. Navy photo by Bill Couch)
