| Description |
English: Sagres; in Belfast Lough - Tall Ships Belfast 2009. Tall ship 'Sagres' in Belfast Lough as part of the 'Parade of Sail' event to mark the end of the Tall Ships event in Belfast. The 'Sagres' was built in 1937 in shipyard of Blohm & Voss in Hamburg, Germany. Damaged by a mine in WW2 she was taken to Bremerhaven shipyard and captured by the U.S. forces in 1945. In 1948 she was given to the Brazilian Navy and was used as a sail training ship under the name 'Guanabara'. She was purchased by Portugal to replace the old sail training ship Sagres and is sometimes known unofficially as the 'Sagres II'. |
