| Description |
English: 'Lion' on the level crossing at Grosmont Class 50 diesel locomotive No. 50027 'Lion' on the level crossing at Grosmont. The locomotive was introduced in the late 60's to work north of Crewe on services to Glasgow before the route was electrified. Latterly it was used on the Network Southeast routes including that from Waterloo to Exeter before being withdrawn from service in 1991 and it is that livery which it currently carries. Now in private ownership, it operates regularly on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The locomotive was named in the late 1970's when operating on the Western Region, following the policy of that region in naming locomotives after Royal Navy warships. |
