Description
English: Abbot by Liu Yun, dry lacquer, Song dynasty, dated 1099, Honolulu Museum of Art accession 4818. This sculpture bears an inscription on the bottom identifying both the donor, Jiangsheng, the artist, Liu Yun, and the date 1099, making it the earliest known dated dry lacquer Buddhist sculpture from China to survive.
