Summary[edit]

Description
English: "Toy Boat Regatta" is a mixed media piece of art: pen, black ink and watercolor. I did this piece of art in 2013. However, the background was not all filled in, and I kept wanting to complete the work but did not take the time until 2016. When I changed the background, I decided to enter it into a local competition sponsored by the Vero Beach Art Club. I won third prize.

Author E. Marie Francis

My name is E. Marie Francis, and I was born in Middleborough, Massachusetts. I graduated from high school in 1959 and then attended Swain School of Design in New Bedford, Massachusetts. After two years, I left Swain and attended the University of Nevada at Reno and decided to take up art education. I stayed at UNR for two years and decided to return to Massachusetts and eventually received my Bachelors (1977) and a Master of Arts in teaching Creative Arts (1997). For twenty-five years, Ms. Francis was an elementary school art teacher in Carver and Plymouth, Massachusetts. Her studio pursuits in the early part of her career as an artist/teach began in the mid 60s when she entered many local and national art competitions. Her work at that time consisted of pen and ink drawings. Later she introduced colored inks and finally watercolor paints. She has as of 2017 been in 20 National competitions with one purchase award from the Oklahoma Art Center in Oklahoma City, Ok, which has now become the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. My work has been in their permanent collection since that competition in 1967, She has now added acrylic painting to her list of media and has had a couple of her paintings exhibited recently in National Competitions as well. Still actively working at her studio, she enters local competitions in Florida just as she had done in Massachusetts. Her early works have now been accepted into the Archival and Special Collections Department at UMass Dartmouth, MA. as Swain School has now merged with this University. Her early works will be used to promote her ala mater. Ms. Francis is a member of the Vero Beach Art Club, the American Association of University Women, and the National League of American Pen Women. Presently, along with creating her own art she and her husband Carl Rantz, a graphic artist from Boston, Ma., are co-Directors and Creators of the Foyer Gallery of Art located at the Emerson Center in Vero Beach, Florida.
