Description

As sereias não vivem apenas nos oceanos; também podem ser vistas em lagos, rios e ribeiros de água fresca. Podem ver vistas em Mirandela junto ao Rio Tua, mais propriamente no Parque do Império, onde uma delas se transformou em Princesa. Diz-se que quem visitar a Lagoa das Sereias, em Derbyshire, na Inglaterra, imediatamente antes da aurora, poderá vê-las nadar, graciosamente, nas águas escuras.

As sereias também seduzem homens para viverem com elas, no fundo do mar, principalmente, se forem jovens e belos, pois os Tritões são, geralmente, feios e ferozes.

Por vezes capturavam-se sereias, devido ao seu conhecimento de ervas, com as quais curavam humanos, e pelos seus dons proféticos.

Uma das figuras que mais influenciaram a mitologia, as sereias tem um aspecto bem conhecido: metade do corpo lembra uma mulher, metade lembra um peixe.
