Summary[edit]
Description"Bisingen" castle in the village of Vlajkovac, near the town of Vršac, Serbia 03.png |
English: Right next to the road that connects Romania and Serbia, near the town of Vršac, there is a magnificent castle from the 19th century. The castle served mainly as the winter and summer residence of the Bissinger family, and its members used the castle until the end of World War II, when it was nationalized. Rising above the plain that surrounds it, Bissingen Castle, although losing its battles with the weather, still stands defiant. Its facade falls away to reveal bricks; the roof has partially collapsed, and the park around it is overgrown. Within the castle there was also a large park, the beauty and complexity of which can still be seen. There was also an artificial pond, a fountain, and a stream with several smaller bridges. There was also a greenhouse where the head gardener cultivated plants, including some rare and exotic species, and nurtured them during the winter months. Uninhabited, without any human or social care, it was left at the mercy of nature and atmospheric conditions and vandalism. Many parts of the interior were completely destroyed or stolen.
