Scope Nominated as the most valued image on Commons within the scope:
Statues of Sainte-Genevieve
Used in Global usage
Reason to me, the most representative of the pictures of this statue available in "Commons". Shows the whole niche, and details of columns ( XVI-XVIIth centuries ) of the church, in which stays the grave of the saint. Higher resolution than others. -- Jebulon (talk)

(criteria)

Oppose as statue; prefer this one and  Oppose as facade of church per better ones existing: this for example and a few more complete facade pics in the category. Jolly Janner (talk) 23:02, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In which case, I have no idea what your scope is and will remain neutral until I know. Jolly Janner (talk) 00:41, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Oppose, scope is too narrow. Looks like their could be a scope for each façade element of the church. If this statue is of special interest, e.g. best statue of this saint, or famous work of the sculptor, scope should express it. --Ikar.us (talk) 09:21, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Scope changed from statue of Sainte-Geneviève, façade of Saint-Etienne-du-Mont church, Paris to Statues of Saint Genevieve --Jebulon (talk) 20:20, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please notify previous voters of this change. Remember: "A support vote that was made before a change of scope is not counted unless it is reconfirmed afterwards; an oppose vote is counted unless it is changed or withdrawn".

  • I chose the previous scope, because I saw three different pics in "commons" of the same statue, and I thought that a comparison was possible between these three views, and I thought that this one was the best, for "reasons" above (I've add now an advice about the grave). To me, it was interesting for encyclopedia to have a valued image among the three. Sometimes we have valued images, unique in their scopes, and it looks un-significant to me... Furthermore, there is a statue of this women here, because her grave stays in this church ! I think its enough to make it special. Now, the scope is larger, and according to a category. I hope it would be better and more acceptable for reviewers. Anyway, the "scope" policy is still a real problem, as usual. That's why, except of scientific matters (plants, minerals, animals, with easy scopes) VIC project is poor (incomprehensible, and then disheartening), in my opinion, and open only for "specialists". We have only two judges really understanding the "scope" rules, and it's a pity, because this project could really be the most interesting (and "valuable") of the three concerning pictures in "Commons".--Jebulon (talk) 20:52, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose Prefer File:Ste genevieve st etienne.jpg, as it shows the statue face on. Jolly Janner (talk) 20:42, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    • Yes, but on "your" pic, I see only a statue, without any context. Furthermore, I don't understand why a "face on" statue is more valuable, in this case. Thanks for review (but pleeeease, let me finish my edit before voting ;)--Jebulon (talk) 20:57, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Who are these two judges? :-/ For me, Statue of Saint Geneviève at Saint-Etienne-du-Mont, Paris would have been sufficient. Describing this specific object, without redundant specifications. (Or is there another statue inside?) (User:Jolly Janner was obviously confused by the comme at first, which he understood as an enumeration of scopes.) --Ikar.us (talk) 21:34, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The current scope seems unusual to me. Could be more widened to Saint Genevieve, including paintings. --Ikar.us (talk) 21:45, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Now for the statues scope, we have to compare all statues of her. I find four striking attributes: Plaits, breadbasket, sceptre candle, sheep. But no statue has them all. Which are her insignia? --Ikar.us (talk) 21:45, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Coin around her neck is important, too. This is present here, but candle is missing. No statue with all characteristics? --Ikar.us (talk) 22:36, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • This one has the coin, the plaits, and the sheep. Not so bad ! The candle was used by Genevieve when she visited the building site of a chapel, by night. During the XVth, the candle disappeared, and G. was represented as a sheperd. It seems to have been a "medley" with Joan of Arc. (G. a virgin, saved Paris from the Huns, and JoA, a virgin too, saved France from English). I'm looking for Internet links referencing this (I've read one...). I will ask the curate of the church, (he's a friend of mine) for an explanation about the coin and the plaits.
@Ikar.us: of course you are one of these two judges, but it is good and we need regular and diligent examiners ! But I know too that some contributors to "Commons" hesitate to submit pics in VIC because they don't understand rules (as me, sometimes...)--Jebulon (talk) 22:42, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • I have just found this, in French I'm sorry. Not enough. And what about my nomination ? still decline ? --Jebulon (talk) 22:59, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Oppose Sorry, I oppose lately because I think that a scope "Statue of [any saint]" is too narrow, unless it is masterpiece work of art. We have some VI about saints illustrated with a statue but there had been simply nominated with a scope like "Saint X" or Y. --Myrabella (talk) 08:31, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • OK, I agree with these arguments, we must be coherent. And OK, this statue is not the best illustration for a scope named "Saint Genevieve" (Anyway, I am very proud of one of my first self-made perspective correction with The Gimp !!) En fait de barre d'Etel, les VIC, c'est plutôt le banc d'Arguin, oui ! (private joke)

 I withdraw my nomination --Jebulon (talk) 15:47, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
