| Reason | This is not a listed monument and it doesn't even look pretty, but it's a prime example for the old Franconian tradition of bakers also being brewers (see Category description for further information). This part of the local culture has mostly died out by now, but on the Götschel building you can still see the words "Bäckerei" (bakery) and "Brauerei" (brewery), even though the bakery part of the business was abandoned in the 1960ies. It also shows the later trend of many smaller breweries going out of business – even in Franconia, which still has the highest density of breweries world wide (let's hope the newest "craft beer" trend can stop this). -- El Grafo (talk) |
