    • There is a reason for doing this in black and white: to concentrate on the pattern rather than the colour. I'm not sure it works in this case, however, as the background is distracting. There's absolutely nothing wrong with photos being artistic, and indeed it would be hard to get an FP if it had no artistic merit. We need to be careful the artistic qualities aren't to the severe detriment of the educational ones, and that they aren't the only merits an image has. Remember that people wanting educational photos want good-looking photos too. And sometimes black and white achieves something a colour photo can't. Colin (talk) 08:41, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
