Category-bot
In order to categorize/update categories on images and link corresponding articles in en: , I'd like to obtain a bot flag for category-bot. It's to run the pywikipediabot framework. Docu 17:20, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

- Uhm, categories are a very controversial topic on Commons. You should know exactly what you are doing when categorizing here. So I don't know whether it is a very good idea to have directly copy the categorization from en. -- Bryan (talk to me) 21:44, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- Please explain more what it will actually do. Which categories will it act on? Why? pfctdayelise (说什么?) 03:20, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
There are many images in Category:Picswiss which are categorized by canton, but this still makes fairly large categories. In one canton (Category:Graubünden), someone already work through them. For other cantons, I categorized some of them manually in more specific categories (e.g. Category:Stans), but it would be easier to do this by bot.
In addition, there a series of categories that have been tagged for renaming for quite some time, but the images hadn't been moved (e.g. Category:Cities and villages in the canton of Luzern to Category:Cities and villages in the canton of Lucerne). -- User:Docu
- Comment I would like to see a lot more detail on what is proposed that the bot actually do, and consensus on the changes that would be done from others, before I'd be in favour of approving this bot. ++Lar: t/c 16:58, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- There are 4000 images in the a/m category. It's not very practical to sort them by hand. Try to sort some of them and you will easily discover. -- User:Docu
- This has been here a while now. I'd like to see the concerns addressed and some better explanation of what it does given, or the request ended. I am all for automation but only if it's well understood what it does and if it doesn't automate controversial actions. ++Lar: t/c 17:49, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
