- Nice photo! Are you sure he is a tanner or has there been a simple mix-up in the translation? A tanner is someone who process the raw hides into leather, a very hazardous and revolting job. After that the leather goes to a currier who dyes and prepare the leather before it can be made into different things by a leather worker. Traditionally, such craftsmen are called "saddlers" even if they make other things from leather than saddles.
