Women are sitting in frontof an outspread role of tappa, which is beingpainted with curious dark brown patterns;little children play about naked as the daythey were born, and the men, living towersof strength and good nature, tending the horsesor busying themselves by yawning and singingin monotonous rich tones. These natives—men, women, and children—love singing, whichwas no doubt a great help to the missionariesin earlier days, as half of them flock to churchto hear the little harmoniums or whateverinstrument the rustic village churches aresupplied with, and to chant away like canarieson a perch. There are Roman Catholic andProtestant churches, and all the natives are,of course, baptised.
