Deutsch: Die älteste erhaltende Darstellung eines mittelalterlichen Adelsgeschlechtes entstand wohl in der alten welfischen Grablege, dem Kloster Weingarten, in den letzten Jahrzehnten des 12. Jahrhunderts. Ganz oben rechts erscheint mit der Welfin Judith die Mutter Friedrichs Barbarossas. Die übergroße Darstellung des Kaisers selbst wurde nicht ausgeführt. Die "Ecksteinfunktion" Barbarossas zwischen Staufern und Welfen suggeriert, dass es ab Friedrich die Staufer sind, die den Welfenstamm fortsetzen.
