English:

Commercial halibut fishing in the Pacific Northwest got its start in 1888 with the shipment of the first railroad carload of fresh fish to the eastern United States. By 1907, much of the halibut sold on the east coast came from northern Pacific waters. In this photo, part of the large Pacific halibut fleet rests at a dock in Seattle. The earliest halibut fishing boats were sailing schooners like these. This photo was taken sometime between 1902 and 1916. By this time, many of the schooners had engines or were being replaced by steamers.
